The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer was released back in 2005 for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, PC, Mac OS X, Nintendo DS & Game Boy Advanced. Developed by the trio of Heavy Iron Studios, Beenox, & Helixe; published by THQ. The original game music was provided by Michael Giacchino(the original composer of both The Incredibles films) alongside Chris Tilton(Black, Facture, Simcity). This game's story was considered canon up until the release of 2018's The Incredibles 2.
Even though It's been a few years since this soundtrack was first requested(better late then never), I finally had free time over the Holidays to catch up on a few things here and there—one of them was this project. It's been hot minute since I've last dug into hard video game data and RotU was a little tricky figuring out what to look for. The game's resource files are stored in .hip, .hop, and US.hip folders; which are not easily accessible. Upon exploring the folders, you'll find each one contains certain files: HIP(sgrp, sdfx, simp files), HOP(anim, modi, snd, snds, sndi files), US.HIP(snds, text, crdt, sndi files). The music files are typically snds assets. Most of the music is stored in the BOOT.hip file of the primary directory. That where music_**.WAV are stored.
I used the text files to identify the levels such as: MT (Sludge Station), BB (Blizzard Backdoor), RF (Giant Robot Factory) and so on. I converted the files to WAV, looped, amplified, added fades, silence and then exported. There are a couple of tracks that I assume have been cut from the game, even though they exist in the files and they are: MT01-01.WAV.snds(Sludge Station), BB01-01.WAV(Blizzard Backdoor), & music_mn.WAV(Main Menu). I loaded up the GameCube version and played through the Blizzard Backdoor and Sludge Station stages with sound effects off to see If I could hear the unused music and alas, I did not. Since the game was released for so many consoles, perhaps theses tracks were used in other versions. I don't know. If anyone has info on these omitted tracks, you can leave a comment or shoot us an email. Nonetheless, they are included as tracks 23-26 at the end of the soundtrack.
I laughed when I saw one of the sound effects was labeled "BTCH_SLAP" for a Disney game, all in caps too. It's funny the things you'll find within game directories. There we have it! The first video game extraction project in a long time but it's uploaded in both FLAC and MP3. You'll find it in the archive. Enjoy!
