2017 Original Game Score of the Year

And another year of beautiful video game music. Over the weekend, we uploaded our nominees and winner of our 2017 Original Game Score of the Year. This year, I felt was more difficult to choose our nominees then the previous three years that we've been doing these award videos. There are so many great video game soundtracks this year and making the final decision on our nominees is never an easy thing to do but each year we try our best to showcase the top soundtracks the video game industry has to offer and I think we succeeded with that. We listened through over 40 official soundtracks during the course of 2017 and for me, at least 15 of them I've had and will continue to have on my weekly playlists. One of my favorite aspects of video game soundtracks is diversity, everything from sweeping orchestral scores to speedy guitar solos are represented, there is something for everyone. I'm going to list our nominees and winners here on our site as well as original scores that didn't make our cut for the awards but everybody should listen to at least once.

Here are a few Original Scores of 2017 that we wanted to give an honorable mention to: Horizon Zero Down(PS4) Gorgeous orchestral work by Joris De Man gives the sense of openness and exploration that fills the lush landscapes of Horizon Zero Dawn; Valkyria Revolution(PS4, Xbox One, Vita)As a big fan of Valkyria Chronicles, the game is very disappointing but that shouldn't distract you from the downright wonderful orchestral score throughout the game; Divinity: Original Sin 2(PC)Soothing soundtrack with ethnic instruments, choir played in bard/tavern style manner  to compliment this medieval fantasy world; Fire Emblem Warriors(Switch)Fantastic blend of rock and orchestra give off an epic sound - it has some impressive guitar solos as well, Persona 5(PS3, PS4)Smooth Jazz, Bass and Rock make this soundtrack an easy listen; Little Nightmares(PS4)Haunting, eerie soundtrack that makes the Maw of Little Nightmares even creepier; The Sexy Brutal(PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)Jazz and piano solos make this soundtrack a fun listen; Uncharted - The Lost Legacy(PS4)I personally still hold Uncharted 2 as the best OST in the series but The Lost Legacy has some beautiful orchestral work that keeps pace with the events in the game and Injustice 2(PS4, Xbox One, PC, iOS)An Epic orchestral score that fits the superhero world very well.

Thanks to all of you that submitted soundtracks, we're hoping to add even more categories next time around so make sure to check back for that in December.  Now, we'll be getting back to our various video game music projects including new uploads, playlists and our own soundtrack recommendations!

2017 Electronic Track of the Year

It's that time again! We've added a few more awards this year on top of our pick for the Original Video Game Score of the Year and those awards are for the Electronic, Vocal and Rock Tracks of the Year. For each of these new categories we maintained our limit of 5 nominees followed by the winner for the year. We'll be uploading one award video each day until Saturday—which is when we'll upload our Original Game Score of 2017. Be sure to check out Youtube Channel for the videos. I know that we normally reveal our nominees during the last week of December and we've been receiving e-mails asking if we were still going forward with our awards this year. What happened was.. unfortunate, we had a hard drive crash. Thankfully all of our captured video game footage was backed up separately but the award projects themselves were not. So, they needed to be edited again from scratch. We weren't too far into editing the videos but it's already a time consuming process without having to edit a couple videos over a second time but hey, at least we learned a lesson for next year - back up everything regularly.

Without further ado, here is our first ever Electronic track of the Year! If you listen to electronic music(EDM, House, Techno, Dubstep, ect), we hope you discover some new music to add to your daily playlists. Remember to purchase these albums if you like them to support these talented artists. Enjoy!

2016 Original Video Game Score of the Year.

Alrighty, here is our choice for Original Video Game Score of the 2016. It's so weird that I first heard the track Somnus from FFXV close to 10 years ago, and here I am now giving it the soundtrack of the year award. I hope we never have to wait 10 years for a game to release again but with current trend of updated PS4's and Xbox Ones, I don't think it's going to happen.  It was another great year for video game music overall and next year looks like it could be even better(I'm hearing rumors of Beyond Good & Evil 2!). So, enjoy the music and here's to 2017.

'16 Original Game Score of the Year - Nominees

Here are our picks for Original Game Score of 2016! There wasn't any voting this year, mainly because of time constraints and late game releases. We always try and listen to every possible game soundtrack that we can and games such as the Last Guardian and Final Fantasy XV had such late soundtrack releases that we had to wait for our copy, listen through them, come up with our likes and dislikes of the albums. So, I think next year we may move our awards to the following year, that way we'll have more time to consider the nominees and choose accordingly. We have a pretty diverse video this year that I wasn't expecting at first but that's part of the fun of doing this, finding ost's that surprise you and also, at times..  disappoint you.

We'll post our winner soon.

2015 Original Video Game Score of the Year.

It's January 1st, 2016 and we just uploaded our music video showcasing our choice and the highest voted choice for score of the year. It's always fun putting these videos together, counting the votes and just having a chance to give video game music the recognition it deserves. If you haven't yet, check out the videos for our nominees and our winners. Given the variety each year that the video game industry has to offer, there really is something for everyone. I know I've found tons of new songs this year that I've added to my daily playlists.

So, we hope you enjoyed and now we'll be getting back to uploading more music, creating more playlists and adding more functions to the site.
